A day after one of its party workers was killed in broad daylight, the Kerala unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party observed a massive state-wide hartal on Thursday.

25-year-old Remith succumbed to deep gashes after a group of masked men, allegedly belonging to the CPM, lunged on him in Kannur’s Pinarayi village on Wednesday. The murder comes just 48 hours after Mohanan K, a local CPM leader, was killed in a similar manner at busy market in Kannur.

The twin-killings have set off an intense political battle in the state, with either parties taking turns to blame each other for the murder of their respective cadres.
