Amid the clamour of Kanhaiya Kumar’s return to the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus, The Quint caught up with him as he juggled innumerable media persons waiting for a byte.

Visibly fatigued, he apologised for the wait and explained that since being released from custody, he’s trying to restore a sense of normalcy to his life. However, judging from the line of cameras waiting for him, the effort seemed a bit futile.

While he fielded questions about the lawyers’ attack on him while he was behind bars and the possibility of contesting the elections in West Bengal, The Quint turned the lens on his future course of action to help his fellow accused Umar Khaled and Anirban Bhattacharya. We sought clarification on him denouncing the alleged anti-national activities that took place on the night of 9 February.

At a time when Kanhaiya now walks amongst his fellow students in his campus, Umar and Anirban may face a tougher time getting bail since they were the organisers of the event in question.

Even as Kanhaiya said he could not address matters that are sub judice, he emphasised that the students’ movements, including Occupy UGC and Rohith Vemula, that are under threat from the recent attack on JNU will continue undaunted and will only increase in momentum.
