When ex-President Pranab Mukherjee accepted the invitation to visit the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters in Nagpur, a lot of people expressed their displeasure. It also included his daughter Sharmishtha Mukherjee who tweeted out to her father, warning him to be vary of the BJP-RSS.
Pranab Mukherjee was there to address an event that was held at the memorial of RSS founder, KB Hedgewar.
After a lot of build up, his final speech had people divided about what they felt.
Young journalists at The Quint, also had a mixed bag of views.
Meghnad Bose felt that a former President of India saying that a man who has called Indian Muslims as “foreign snakes” is actually a great son of mother India was reprehensible.
This was in response to Mukherjee writing "Today I came here to pay my respect and homage to a great son of Mother India," in the visitor's book at the memorial.
On the other hand, Eshwar felt that seeing leaders of completely contrasting ideologies sharing a dais was very interesting.
While Aishwarya Iyer felt that he was not wrong for accepting the invite for the event, Indira felt that it was very boring.
“What a boring history lesson!”, she added.
Aviral said that the real question is what Pranab did not say, and that what we should be focusing on.
Tejas felt that he did bring some diversity while Blessy simply says that he should have listened to his daughter.
