The Indian Railways is all set to test its first solar train in Jodhpur.
Solar panels are installed on the rooftops of the trains to reduce dependency on fossil fuels. As per reports, the approval for the trial has not been given due to concerns over passengers damaging the roof panels.
The lights, fans and air conditioners of the train will run on solar energy.
Around 50 coaches will be made ready and the solar train will be assembled at the Railways’ Jodhpur workshop. Expenditure on fuel is expected to come down with this initiative.
