Sacred Games, shows an intriguing world set in the dark underbelly of Mumbai, where politics, crime and passion come together in a deadly game. Sacred Games is based on Vikram Chandra’s critically acclaimed epic novel of the same name. The eight-episode crime drama stars Saif Ali Khan as Sartaj Singh, Radhika Apte as Anjali Mathur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Ganesh Gaitonde.
Saif Ali Khan makes his debut in the digital space with Sacred Games and he agrees it is a great space to be in. “I think it's a great opportunity, a really interesting platform to be on to do some good and exciting work.” says Saif. But at the same time he admits it’s probably the hardest thing he has ever done.
While Radhika who has been part of quite a number of films and series in the digital space says that the platform has been more liberating than she thought it would be, Nawaz is happy he got not three but eight hours to showcase his character which gave him the opportunity to explore the depths of it. He says, “As an actor I have got an advantage that day by day as the shooting goes on, we have gotten the liberty to go in depth.”
The series focuses on Sartaj Singh, an under-performing Bombay police officer, summoned by an anonymous tip one morning, a voice which promises him an opportunity to capture the powerful Ganesh Gaitonde, criminal overlord of the G-Company. As the stakes mount and Sartaj seeks knowledge of his prey, it becomes clear that the game the two players thought they were engaged in is in fact part of a much larger scenario, one that expands beyond their city.
All episodes of Sacred Games will premiere on July 6, 2018 in all territories where Netflix is available.
