Jharkhand’s Jamtara district, with a population of over 2,00,000, has become the cybercrime capital of India. People from Jamtara are duping the whole country while sitting at their homes.

How?

Firstly, you’ll receive a call stating, “Sir, we are suspending your account/ATM card.
And if you don’t want this to happen, then submit your account details.” The moment you give the set details, another guy with any e-Commerce site/wallet logged on to his system, fishes out all the money from your account.

But, have no fear, BTech Babua is here! He’ll give you four ideas with which you can save yourself from falling into the traps of online fraudsters.

Idea 1

Stop putting all your personal details on social media sites. It’s social media, not your personal biodata. Put only essential information and don’t use any of that information in setting up your account’s security questions.

Idea 2

Don’t throw away the photocopies of your PAN card, Aadhaar card or any other identity proof here and there. Reason being, anyone can use these photocopies to get a duplicate sim of your mobile number from your service provider. To avoid this, firstly be mindful of your documents and while applying for a new sim, give an alternative number to the telecom company so that if anyone asks for a duplicate number on your behalf, the company can check with you.

Idea 3

If someone calls or mails you saying you’ve won a massive lottery, DO NOT BELIEVE THEM. It would just be some online fraud trying to get a hold of your account details so that they can take off with whatever savings you have.

Idea 4

If you are feeling proud after downloading a movie online, then beware, you may someday fall into the trap of malware.
Malware is a software which automatically gets downloaded onto your system, steals all your sensitive information like passwords and pins, and sends it to the source/thief sitting at a remote location.
So the next time, don’t download anything from a random website, otherwise your account may get wiped out!
