Doesn’t every child dream of making their father proud one day? Perhaps young Ghalib Guru feels it much more. Ghalib’s father, Afzal Guru was arrested when he was just two. He was executed on February 9 in 2013, following his conviction in the Parliament attack case.
Ghalib, the only son of Mohammad Afzal Guru, whose hanging caused political ripples in Pakistan, India, and most notably in Kashmir, has scored 95 per cent marks in the 10th standard examinations conducted by the Jammu & Kashmir Board of School Examination.
But this is just one hurdle crossed, says the bright teenager. Incidentally, Ghalib’s father, Afzal Guru was also pursuing medical education before he left the course midway.
Ghalib is currently living with his grandparents at Azad Ganj, Baramulla and plans to seek admission in a reputed institution of North Kashmir.
Even though young boy Ghalib likes to play cricket, he is dedicated to academics and spends most of his time studying.
Ghalib, who saw less and less of his father as he was growing up, thinks his mother, Tabassum is his God, his dad, his everything. “Whatever I am doing is for my mother”, says the obedient son.
Ghalib, a class X student of Shah Rasool Memorial School, Sopore, scored 474 marks out of a total of 500.
Ghalib seems to have set his sights on his target.
