In yet another distressing incident, a family in Bihar’s Katihar district was forced to carry the corpse of their relative in a plastic bag.

The family was denied a hearse van or even an ambulance by the Katihar hospital where the dead body was taken for postmortem.

The victim – 21-year-old Chintu Sah – had drowned to death in the Ganga 14 days ago and his body was found on 25 September. However, the hospital allegedly refused to carry out a post mortem on the highly decomposed body and referred it to another hospital in Bhagalpur.

Angry relatives questioned what the Bihar government is doing to support the poor in the state.
