The 24-year-old Titular Maharaja of Mysore – Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar – one of the most eligible blue-blooded bachelors in India just got hitched! Yaduveer married Trishika Kumari Singh, daughter of Harshavardhan Singh, the “yuvaraja” of Dungarpur on 27 June 2016.

Over 80 royal families and a thousand dignitaries from India and abroad have been invited for the wedding. As many as 50 traditional rituals have been planned.

Who is “Maharaja” Yaduveer?

The young Maharaja is the adopted son of the late Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Bahadur and Maharani Pramoda Devi.

This economics graduate from the University of Massachusetts Amherst was adopted by his grand-aunt Maharani Pramoda Devi in February 2015.

Our young ‘king’ is no boring monarch, but a versatile man!

He loves most of the HBO TV series, including Game of Thrones – quite naturally, we’d say! He can strum his guitar and loves books.

He was crowned in May 2015, nearly two years after the last king died, to carry on a 500-year-old legacy of the Wadiyar Kings.

The Wodeyars or the Wadiyar dynasty

In Kannada, Wadiyar or Wodeyar literally translates to ‘Lord’ or ‘Lordship’.

The Wadiyar Dynasty traces its roots back to the Yadavas of Dwaraka who came to Karnataka and made Mysore their abode after witnessing its beauty.

The D-Day

A royal wedding took place in the palace after 40 years.

The 27th Mysuru Maharaja’s wedding tooka break from the erstwhile Wadiyar wedding traditions.

Over four decades ago, the Maharaja’s adoptive parents Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar and Pramoda Devi’s wedding function was thrown open to the public.

But the palace is closed to the public while Yaduveer’s nuptials went on, on 27 June.

Also, there will be no elephant howdah procession for the newlyweds after the wedding.

The newly weds must settle for a car drive around the famous Mysore palace, on 29 June.
