Deepika Padukone has done three films with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali already and you know that they are quite fond of each other. Deepika in The Quint’s previous interview, told us about her equation with the filmmaker and how it’s based on a lot of trust. So we decided to quiz the actor on how well she knows the Padmaavat director.
Padmaavat has been at the core of enough and more controversies in the past few months. But now the actor is in the mood to celebrate. The strife is behind her, she says, and she is looking ahead. But she says that the past few months have not been the toughest, but surely been challenging for her. In midst of the protests, a Rs 10 crore award was announced on her and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, among other things.

After its release, Padmaavat may have led to a furious debate on whether the film is misogynistic and glorifies sati but Deepika Padukone says it has been an empowering experience to be a woman fronting an expensive Indian film. The success of the film will, hopefully, open doors for more such films, the actor said.
“For me, it is the success of womanhood in so many different ways. The film is also a celebration of the fact that this is the most expensive Indian film ever been made with a female protagonist. I view that as a victory. Not just for myself but for women in films,” Deepika told PTI in an interview.
Padmaavat is doing fantastic business at the national as well as international box-office. The film has already raked in Rs 231 crore in India.
