The DC3 Dakota, a sturdy workhorse that flew extensively in the World War II and later during the Indo-Pak and Indo-China conflicts, will soon find a pride of place in the Indian Air Force (IAF).

Rajya Sabha member Rajeev Chandrasekhar wanted to gift one to IAF’s vintage fleet. He had bought one from a collector in the UK, and the same is being face-lifted and painted with the IAF colours. Chandrashekhar purchased the aircraft scrap in Ireland and has restored it in UK, in memory of his Fauji father.

The Indian Air Force has a rich history and heritage spanning more than 80 years, after being established in 1932. It is important that this history is preserved, showcased and celebrated for future generations of India, and serve as inspiration for youngsters to participate in our air force.

The Quint brings to you a glimpse of the age-old aircraft.
