The next time you book a cab, read the name of the driver closely. You may be able to figure out which region of India he belongs to. And then try talking to him in his own language. We assure you that you’ll strike an instant bond with your ‘cabbie bhaiyya’.
This is exactly what RJ Stutee Ghosh does in the latest episode of ‘Cab Mein Charcha’. Over two days she takes multiple rides in cabs in Delhi and gets a lesson in Indian languages from none other than the cabbies.
Her ‘language teachers’ in these rides are four cabbies – Raghunath Singh Kheda from Uttarakhand, Ajay Kaushik from Haryana, Arjun Ram from Bihar and Mohammad Jalhog Ali from Assam.
From regional songs to expressions of love, from expletives to the use of key words in each language, the cabbies tell us that one’s ‘mother tongue’ forges an instant bond, it just helps to connect better with the passengers who are complete strangers when they board the cab.
This masterclass in Indian languages or ‘bhashas’ has prepared RJ Stutee for a big event that she’s going to host on 18 September 2018 in New Delhi.
Bol – Love Your Bhasha is a special initiative of Quint Hindi and Google. It salutes such people and companies who are promoting Indian languages. The event will also be about the challenges that these entrepreneurs deal with.
It’ll talk about the future of Indian languages and the challenges that lie ahead.
Watch out for Bol – Love Your Bhasha!
And, for the time being, watch our ‘cabbie bhaiyyas’ show us all how diverse and beautiful our Indian languages are.
