Vijender Singh is set to defend his Asia Pacific title in a fight with former world champion Francis Cheka. The Tanzanian boxer had said: “I will hit Vijender so hard on his face that he’ll never think of professional boxing again”. But the self-declared 'good boy of boxing’ wants his gloves to do the talking.
Singh, who secured his maiden Asia Pacific title with a win against Australia’s Kerry Hope in July this year, will be defending it for the first time on 17 December at Thyagaraj Sports Complex in Delhi.
Cheka, who challenged Vijender first, has more experience in the ring than the Haryana boy. Cheka has won 32 bouts of 43 and Singh has won all seven of his.
Vijender has been setting up the “perfect game plan” with his trainer Lee Beard in Manchester for almost three months now and is “ready to defend his title against Cheka”.
