In 2016, a village in Haryana elected 12 educated women and the first ever all-women panchayat was born. As part of its election reportage, The Quint spoke to the women panchayat in Bhiwani Rohilla on what are the issues that matter to them.
When the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign was launched in 2015, the entire village backed the all-women panchayat, also known as 'beti-panchayat.' In fact, JJP MP Dushyant Chautala had adopted Bhiwani Rohilla. but despite being in the headlines, the village hasn't benefited in any way. Villagers are disappointed by the government's indifference. Women are fighting for their rights and for their demands to be heard. Watch the full video for more.
