Remember Ammu, the female dog from Bengaluru whose eight puppies were brutally killed in front of her eyes? She died of canine distemper last week. According to the family that took care of Ammu, saw her grow, even delivered the puppies, she continued to be traumatised about her babies’ death until her own end.
In March this year, Ponnamma, the wife of an ex-flight lieutenant allegedly flung eight 15-day-old puppies against boulders, killing them almost instantly in front of their mother Ammu. The impact was so severe that “some of their intestines were out,” said a resident of the area.
Dr Vinay Morray, who attended to Ammu, said that he was told by the family that she refused to eat and often spent time in the area where her puppies were buried.
In a video message sent to The Quint, Ammu’s caretaker Sathish Jalahalli remembers her fondly.
