Multiple people were injured, including dozens of firefighters killed, when the iconic Plasco building in the capital city of Iran collapsed, state-run Press TV reported on Thursday.

Press TV reported that 20 people lost their lives in the building collapse. Earlier, authorities suggested that at least 25 people had been injured in the fire at the iconic Plasco building in Tehran.

Reports suggest that the building's occupants, mostly garment manufacturers, "had been warned repeatedly by the municipality to evacuate the building due to safety concerns."

Witnesses described the Plasco’s collapse like a "scene from a horror movie".

The Plasco –the tallest building in the city at the time it was built– came into existence in the early 1960s. It was commissioned by Iranian Jewish businessman Habib Elghanian, and named after his plastics manufacturing company.
