Neckband headphones seem to have found their calling with users who're immersed in their fitness routine. They are wireless, which makes it even more handy for those, who're fond of running every day.

The only problem was that you were spending a lot to buy one of these till now, but with brands like Mivi, it’s slowly changing.

The Mivi Collar tries to ape the design formula that biggies like Sennheiser, JBL and Jays, among others, have adopted without costing a bomb. But for Rs 2,999, does the Mivi Collar make its case amongst the elite in the audio segment? This review will give you some answers.

Pros:

  • Compact design
  • Decent audio quality
  • Voice calling supported
  • Affordable

Cons:

  • Battery life needs improvement
  • Quality of cable and headband could be better

What’s Good?

It's hard to expect much out of a wireless neckband headphone for under 3K, but Mivi, a relatively unknown name, did surprise us with its overall audio output. It fits well to your neck, stays there till you want, and that's been covered as per the standard of such products. You get the Power button and the up/down volume button is there as well.

Talking about the quality on offer, I liked the clarity you get – nothing to heavy nor something that feels distorted either.

Fits nicely under your neck and lets you take voice calls also. (Photo: The Quint)

While it would have been great to have some more bass packed in, the trebles ensure that listening to mellow classic tunes or even jazz would be a pleasant experience. Anything more than this, and you're just pushing the buck beyond what it's capable of.

What’s Bad?

For this price, Mivi has made a decent start, but this neckband clearly reeks of an amateurish product. And by that, we mean lackluster quality of the headband, as well as the earphone cables.

If they get tangled all the time, it only means the design team has to make some changes. We're hoping that the second iteration of the neckband is offered in a polished form.

Also, that battery life could do with some more juice. Seven to eight hours is okay, but for a product such as this, anything less than 10 hours and there's a compromise being made.

Why Buy It?

The Mivi Collar wireless headband is a decent first attempt for its price that needs further polishing to be seen as an option for the buyers. People in this segment aren't looking for quality, but for what it's worth, they'd at least want value for their money. Fit and finish for starters, and yes, the battery life.

Worth giving it a shot? (Photo: The Quint)

Fix these drawbacks, price it affordable and there's a product worth recommending. This brand will be a hard-sell for many, but from what we've seen lately, people are willing to give anyone a shot, if they're worth it.
