The average smartphone user in the market today has considerable options when he’s looking to invest in a smartphone. From EMIs to cashback offers, there is no dearth of options when it comes to finances. So, one is ready to raise the bar a bit higher and trudge in the Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 category only if the phone is worth the money.
Many smartphone makers have thrown in the towel in trying to take down "the flagship killer" of India, OnePlus, but it seems only a few have the wherewithal to stand up to it.
One such brand is Honor and its latest flagship the View 20 seems to pack enough ammunition to take down OnePlus’s stronghold. So, what’s really special about Honor’s new proposition the Honor View 20? Here’s a quick comparison between the Honor View 20 and the OnePlus 6T.
The Honor View 20 is one of the first smartphones in the market to sport a punch hole 6.4-inch FDH+ display which sports a resolution of 1080 x 2310 pixel. Now the thing to worry for Honor is that OnePlus 6T comes with an AMOLED display with more pixels on offer. Clearly, the view 20 is out of its depth here. Viewing content and gaming on the OnePlus 6T is a joy considering the colour output is magnificient.
The Honor View 20 too offers a rich colour palette, but still not enough to trump the OnePlus 6T.
In terms of the design, both the OnePlus 6T and the Honor View 20 comes with a glass back design and are compact devices. I really liked the gradient V-shape design at the back of the View 20, which really makes it look swanky although the all-black glossy texture makes the 6T eye candy. No favourite here.
The OnePlus 6T is a tried-and-tested champion of the arena. It’s rocking a powerful Snapdragon 845 processor bundled with 6GB of RAM with an 8GB variant in tow. Gamers and multi-taskers swear by the 845 chipset, which to date hasn’t disappointed at all.
The OnePlus 6T is running on the latest Android Pie operating system and offers a very near stock Android experience. Many have grown accustomed to the fluidity that the OS offers, which is why the 6T receives very few criticism for its user experience.
The Honor View 20 too offers Android Pie out-of-the-box, but the fact that its on top of Honor’s Magic UI robs users of the stock Android experience. Though Magic UI is refreshing but it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Many will take time getting used to what’s on offer.
Both phones are devoid of expandable storage and neither offer water-dust resistance so that’s a bummer.
Honor is looking to revamp the whole optics game with the View 20. The phone comes with a – wait for it – 48-megapixel camera at the back! That’s more megapixels than both the cameras on the back of the OnePlus 6T. It’s just not the megapixels game that Honor is playing here. It has also put a TOF (time-of-flight) 3D stereo camera at the back which helps render a 3D perspective for pictures and also helps analyse depth. This also helps users venture into augmented gaming. Sound gimmicky? Honor doesn’t think so.
The OnePlus 6T comes with a dual 16+20-megapixel camera at the back and a 16-megapixel on the front. Clearly, OnePlus is focused on giving a good camera experience rather than exuberant camera specifications. OnePlus 6T has the basics covered, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t like the extras the Honor View 20 is offering.
Well, put the two against each other in a camera shootout soon. Till then, Honor wins this round on paper.
The Honor View 20 comes with a 4,000mAh battery which offers fast charging. The company says it’s even faster than the OnePlus Dash charging technology. Considering that the Honor View 20 comes with a 4,000 mAh battery, getting 55 percent charge in just 30 minutes from the 5V charger isn’t bad at all.
The OnePlus 6T supports Dash Charging technology, which can charge the 6T up to 50 percent in just 20 minutes which is more than enough.
I think you’d be happy with either of the two but the Honor View 20 has an upper hand just because of the extra 300mAh of battery juice.
Ok, here goes. I am not rooting for either one here because it would be unfair to both these amazing phones. The OnePlus 6T is like a grizzly bear in a cat suit. Elegant yet deadly. It packs good hardware and a screen to match. Investing almost Rs 36,000 on the OnePlus 6T is justified as it has the goods.
By pricing the Honor View 20 exactly the same as the OnePlus 6T it’s clear there’s only one competitor Honor is trying to take down. Yes, the View 20 is the new kid on the block, but it borrows a lot of elements from one of the best phones in the market right now, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro hence the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. This means trouble for a certain Chinese smartphone maker.
