WhatsApp is under intense scrutiny from the Indian government to put its house in order. The Facebook-owned messaging app has been laid out as the culprit for spreading fake information via forwarded messages. Now the company is doing its bit to ensure the tag of a fake news sharing platform gets off its back once and for all.
For this, it has hired a grievance office recently, who will be based out of the United States (not sure how that’ll work for India) and looking into issues that users have to report on.
Adding to that, users in India are now getting the option to Contact Us on WhatsApp, enabling them to report on any grievance or issues that look suspicious. The feature is available on the app itself and can be accessed via the WhatsApp on web option as well. Here’s how it works:
Once you hit Contact Us, you’ll see a form pop-up (as seen below), asking for your email address and mention the subject of your issue related to WhatsApp. You can even add screenshots to validate your concern, and hopefully the matter gets resolved. We don’t know how long it’ll take for WhatsApp to fix/work on the issue but it’s a step in the right direction nevertheless.
We’re not sure how many WhatsApp users in India are going to make use of this feature but it is likely that the groundwork is being setup to make sure no further violence or hatred is spread through the app.
