Brian Acton, the co-founder of WhatsApp, has decided to leave the company to start a new venture, he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

WhatsApp, now owned by Facebook Inc, was co-founded by Acton and Ukrainian immigrant Jan Koum in 2009.

Acton spent eight years with WhatsApp, which Facebook bought in 2014 for $19 billion in cash and stock.
