As WhatsApp users continue to wait for dark mode feature on Android and iOS, the Facebook-owned messaging app is working on other options.
This week, reports from WABetaInfo has shown glimpses of the ‘disappearing message’ feature, which will ensure secret messages get automatically deleted after a few seconds/minutes.
This option has been available on Gmail, and Telegram, which is WhatsApp’s closest rival, for quite some time. And soon, WhatsApp users will be getting this as well. Interestingly, the tipster has spotted this feature in Group settings, but we’re hopeful that individual users will also get to use this.
The tipster has seen the feature that allows users to set their messages to self-destruct in the recently released public beta version of WhatsApp for Android "2.19.275".
As the name suggests, ‘any message eligible to be 'disappeared', will be automatically deleted from the chat’ said the website. When the chat is marked as "disappeared," all messages will be automatically removed after a certain interval.
It further adds that the user will be able to mark the chat as "disappeared" enabling the option "Disappearing messages", in Group Info. As the user taps on the option, they’ll see a drop down box which offers time limit to be set for deletion of the chat.
It could either be limited to 5 seconds, or even for an hour.
After enabling this option, any message will be automatically removed and there will be no tracks available in the chat about deleted messages, the tipster highlights in their post.
As always, there’s no timeline for when the feature will be available to the end user, but hopefully it will be knocking on your doors, before dark mode makes its way.
