Right on cue, Uber has updated its driver app for the Indian market. The application claims to offer better insights for its fleet in the country, including a feature showing how much money the drivers make in a day.
Uber states that the app will be available to its partner drivers in Kochi and and Chennai for now. The app has been launched after it was tested with drivers in Bengaluru. The information was shared by Uber’s CEO Dara Khosrowshahi via Twitter on Tuesday, 10 April.
So, what new stuff will the driver get that Uber feels will make their working experience better? The app comes with an "earnings tracker" to let drivers know how much they earned on their last trip, making it easy to track progress.
There is also a status bar feature, which provides real-time updates on market conditions around the drivers and shows opportunities for more trips nearby.
There’s also a notifications feature, which lets drivers see messages about upcoming earning opportunities, feedback from riders and information about their account.
And finally, the app offers a feature called ‘driver profile’, which allows riders to learn more about their driver and find new ways to connect, something which has become visible on the regular Uber app as well. Uber has been proactively looking to tweak its products for the Indian market, and the driver app will likely help their case with the fleet.
Uber also introduced a new technology which allows users to book a ride without using the mobile application. Apart from launching a web-based and a ‘call to ride’ version of Uber, the company has also floated three new app features on a pilot basis; the driver app is one of them.
