Unified Payments Interface or UPI on Uber is live in India now, and if you’re a regular rider with the cabs hired via Uber app on Android, then it’s time you make convenient, cashless payment for your rides.
Uber has joined hands with Axis Bank to help this system operate, but more than anything else, with UPI, users will neither have to refill their digital wallets, or subscribe to OTPs for payment facilities.
So, here’s how UPI works via Uber for riders. Follow these steps to create your UPI address, or existing UPI users can link their account to the Uber app.
Unlike Paytm or registering debit/credit cards on Uber, with UPI, you don’t have to repeatedly put OTPs (one time password) for payment, or worry about running short of money.
These issues might not hit every user on the Uber platform, but payment does become convenient. You might also want to note that in case you don’t have a 4-digit PIN for your UPI ID, you can register for a new one from the Uber app itself.
They also emphasised that with all its drivers having a bank account, UPI/BHIM becomes an obvious choice for cashless payment. That doesn’t mean you can’t choose between your options; with the likes of Paytm still very much in the reckoning.
Uber opting for UPI is the next-big project for the Centre, with others like WhatsApp and Amazon expected to join the payment ranks in the coming months.
As of now Uber isn’t setting itself any targets, but will be keeping a close eye on the response to its integration with UPI, something that’ll please PM Modi and Co for sure.
