The TV streaming war is slowly gathering pace, and reports that came out on Friday suggest that Tata Sky will soon be launching its Android-based set-top box called Binge+ in the country. The device has been spotted and mentioned in this report by DreamDTH, who have mentioned that it might be available as early as 16 December, which is a few days from now.
The device, like the other hybrid set-top box in the market, will allow users to stream live TV channels (via satellite) and digital platforms like Hotstar and Amazon Prime among others on their big screens. The Binge+ seems like the set-top box avatar of the Binge device which was made available to existing Tata Sky users sometime back.
The report doesn’t say how much the device will cost and whether it will be only available to existing Tata Sky users, or new ones can also apply for one.
The device has been made by a company called Technicolor and will be seen running on Android 9.0 Pie version out of the box. The device will be powered by a quad-core processor, paired with 2GB RAM and offering up to 8GB of storage.
In terms of content, the report says that Tata Sky Binge+ will be offered with one-month free access to apps like Zee5, Hotstar and Eros Now among others. But you can sign up for popular platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Netflix and SunNxt through the device.
We’ve reached out to Tata Sky for more updates on the leaked device and will update the post with their response in the coming days. The Binge+ will be competing with rival devices from Airtel (Xstream box), and DishNxt box among others, that have been available for quite some time in the market.
