Samsung is reportedly going to announce a worldwide recall of its latest flagship Galaxy Note 7, following claims that the batteries of some of the devices have exploded while charging. And those reports have been confirmed by the company, with this statement.
On Wednesday, the Korean giant decided to delay the further shipments of the devices, raising concerns about the severity of the claims. The effect that will also be felt in the Indian market now, which is Samsung’s one of top markets.
The handset was officially launched nearly two weeks ago. However, global delivery might get affected.
A Samsung official told Yonhap, a South Korean news agency, that while the issue affects only 0.1 per cent of the handsets, they are recalling all devices. Clearly, they are not willing to compromise.
The recall is ill-timed as the new iPhone is set to launch on 7 September. Apple is Samsung’s biggest competitor.
Consumers in India who pre-ordered the phone and were expecting to receive it by 3 September, will have to wait till around 10 September, store representatives said.
