Samsung has unveiled its latest flagship devices, the Galaxy S9 and S9+, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Monday, 26 February.
The devices carry the same design philosophy forward and welcome some incremental upgrades to the camera and performance.
The new Galaxy phones will be available in retail outlets from 16 March, with no news yet on when the mobiles would be available in India.
The design remains the same; both the phones sport a glass body and the same infinity display as before. The Galaxy S9 comes with a 5.8-inch quad HD AMOLED display, while the S9+ sports a bigger 6.2-inch display with the same resolution.
Both the devices will be powered by the same Snapdragon 845 process and the Exynos 9810 processor. Where the S9 will come with 4GB RAM, the S9+ will boast a bigger 6GB RAM. A lot of other improvements have been made on the hardware front – there are now scanners onboard that measure your blood pressure.
The fingerprint scanner on the back has been moved below the camera for more accessibility, and both the phones are IP68 water and dust resistant.
For better audio, the new Galaxy phones have been bundled with two speakers on the top and bottom, and now support the Dolby Atmos technology.
The 3.5mm headphone jack has been continued, and the phones now come with fast wireless charging. Yes, FAST wireless charging!
Bixby was also showcased at the event with a whole lot of improvements. Samsung has said it would release the Bixby 2.0 version later this year. You can also use the new Samsung phones as a full-fledged desktop.
Low light photography gets much better and both the phones support bokeh mode photographs.
The Galaxy S9 comes with a 3,000mAh battery, while the bigger S9+ sports a 3,500mAh battery. The phone would be available in four new colours – Midnight Black, Coral Blue, Titanium Gray, Lilac Purple.
(The Quint, in association with BitGiving, has launched a crowdfunding campaign for an 8-month-old who was raped in Delhi on 28 January 2018. The baby girl, who we will refer to as 'Chhutki', was allegedly raped by her 28-year-old cousin when her parents were away. She has been discharged from AIIMS hospital after undergoing three surgeries, but needs more medical treatment in order to heal completely. Her parents hail from a low-income group and have stopped going to work so that they can take care of the baby. You can help cover Chhutki's medical expenses and secure her future. Every little bit counts. Click here to donate.)
