2016 has been a roller-coaster ride for Samsung. With the Galaxy Note 7, the company gave us a top-quality Android phone, but one that also was explosive in nature.
Fast-forwarding its focus to the Galaxy S8 was more or less expected. And it now seems the Note 7 debacle has forced the brand to advance its plans to launch the next Galaxy S flagship product. So what can we expect from the Galaxy S8, most likely to be announced in March? Let’s dig deeper to see what’s in store.
Xiaomi gave us a real-life glimpse into the future of smartphones, with its edge-to-edge display Mi Mix phone. And it’s likely that Samsung’s going to be the next mobile brand to put out a consumer-ready phone with this tech in the form of the Galaxy S8. This could also signal the end of having a home button on the phone, adding those features onto the display itself.
The South Korean company has accrued a set of patents to make this happen. And we’ll be pleasantly surprised if Samsung doesn’t go full-throttle on its display with the S8, just to placate the disgruntled Note 7 users out there.
Samsung didn’t make wholesale changes to the design of the Galaxy S7, but with S8, it’s time Samsung heads over to the drawing board, and gives a design refresh yet again.
The possible use of edge-to-edge display could force Samsung’s hand into giving the S8 a design overhaul. We can’t wait to see if Samsung springs a surprise.
Apple’s already ditched the headphone jack with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus and we expect Samsung to follow suit next year with the Galaxy S8. Motorola is also another brand that decided it’s time to give wireless headphones a shot, with the Moto Z.
2017 could be the year when ditching headphone jacks could become the norm.
It might be tougher than one can imagine, but we’d like Samsung to up the quotient with the camera on the Galaxy S8. Make no mistake, Galaxy S7 had one of the best snappers in the business: brilliant in daylight, impressive in low-light. But we want more, and Galaxy S8 has to deliver that, period.
The Galaxy S8 will surely get a faster processor, more RAM power and a bigger battery, among other things. In addition to this, S8 will most likely be water and dust-resistant. One thing that’s part of our wishlist is better quality headphones, and if at all possible, a wireless charger.
