This year’s Samsung Developers Conference was more about the software that the company will be bringing in the coming years. After a lot of buzz around the foldable display that Samsung had been teasing for the last couple of months, it was finally showcased at the event.

Bixby, too, is expected to come with a lot of new additions and not to mention that the company has introduced a new user interface for its upcoming devices dubbed One UI.

Here’s a look at the five key takeaways from the Samsung Developers Conference 2018.

Going by what Samsung has promised, we can expect the next Samsung flagship to come with a foldable display. The company showcased what seemed like a prototype of the foldable smartphone and said that it will be put be manufactured in the months to come.

Unconfirmed reports say that the first foldable phone to be launched by Samsung will sport a 7.3-inch Super AMOLED display. Samsung has dubbed the technology ‘Infinity Flex Display’ and has said that it is also working on both rollable and stretchable displays.

One UI

Samsung has always been criticised for its buggy interface, which is the company may have decided to update its user interface to make it more simple and user-friendly.

One UI brings to the table a lot of fluidity for the users. There is less clutter of unnecessary samsung's apps this time around and apps like phone and clock will have a more focused perspective to it. The company has also said that it will improve on the visibility and comfort department for the readers.

The UI will also introduce more controls on the bottom of the display, so the user doesn’t have to navigate towards the upper part of the display more often.

An open beta program will kick off this month.

Bixby for Everyone

Samsung smart voice assistant is going to be open to developers now. Samsung has said that it will provide the same tools that the company uses itself to the developers. Bixby will debut in many more devices apart from smart speakers, and it will be compatible with 5 additional languages very soon.

There are a lot of updates coming for Samsung’s Smart TV portfolio and it also pushing its own SmartThings division, which deals with smart home solutions. Samsung also showed off its SmartThings button, has the ability to trigger programmable actions like lights and temperature control.

All of this will be running on the updated version of Bixby that is coming soon.

Android Compatibility

Representatives from Google were present at the Samsung Developers Conference where the company has assured that it will be offering UI and app compatibility for the foldable display.

The company has said that it has already started working on a device for next year.

Samsung is serious about bringing the future of technology to the customers as soon as possible. It recently announced at the India Mobile Congress that it will be running large scale 5G tests very soon and is looking to invest heavily into home automation.

At this pace, 2019 is building up to be a very exciting year for technology.
