Whatever Google can do, Samsung can match it. That seems to be the Korean brands motto these days. And this can be proven now that Samsung is looking to up its ante in the wearable space.

The brand is said to have filed for patents that had led us to believe that smart contact lenses are not far away from being a reality.

According to media reports, the company from South Korea has a patent for a contact lens that has a display with a tiny camera embedded into it. In addition, it’s got sensors that can detect body movement and an antenna to transmit data to a smartphone.

It is likely that the sensors will enable the user to blink and capture whatever they are seeing through the smart lenses.

Blink and It Works!

We all know that the Samsung Gear VR is equipped with lenses. It is a possibility that future iterations of the product may be controlled just by blinking.

However, technology such as this can be easily misused as the lenses are inconspicuous.

Wearable glasses haven’t been a big success thus far. Google has made repeated attempts to perfect the Google Glass, with no success. Microsoft is going big with its $3000 HoloLens as well but it’ll be a long time before the headset makes its way to the market.

Samsung’s smart contact lens can enable researchers to explore mysteries beyond their realm right now. No one knows when the product will hit the market, however, with the Gear VR iteration just around the corner, we might get a glimpse of what this technology has in store for us.

We just hope that this isn’t a blink and miss!
