Samsung recently launched their new flagship smartphones in India – the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+.

Both the smartphones offer nearly similar specifications, but the Edge+ is one smartphone that definitely makes heads turn. At Rs 55,495, the phone is at the top of the food chain but is it really worth that much?

What’s Good?

The phone’s dimensions are 153.2x76.1x7.6mm and it weighs in at 171 grams. It has an amazing build quality and the mix of metal and glass is just the right balance.

It comes with a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED Quad HD display that is just awesome. Samsung has taken their winning formula of the curved screen display and made it bigger and better.

There is little functionality and not a lot of apps for the edge screen, but things like most used apps and favourite contacts really work well on that edge display. It’s one of the best displays in the business right now.

The phone is powered by an Exynos 7420 octa-core processor and is loaded with 4GB RAM. There is more than sufficient power on this phone and you can throw a kitchen sink at it and it won’t flinch in terms of performance. (Don’t try it literally).

The 16-megapixel primary snapper works like a dream and just like the Galaxy S6, the camera gives you superb output. The front 5-megapixel camera clicks decent selfies as well.

The new in-built live streaming feature on the camera app is another first in its segment. The best part is that now you can live stream videos directly from the camera app and don’t need third party apps like Periscope or Instalively.

But, of course, you need a good, powerful 4G connection for this to work smoothly.

What’s Bad?

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ comes with a 3000mAh non-removable battery, which, let’s face it, doesn’t last long because the screen takes too much power as does the processor.

The phone also tends to heat up if you are recording long videos or working with too many apps at the same time. There is also a fingerprint scanner on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ which is, simply put, useless.

Then there is the big looming question: What if I drop it? The phone has a metal and glass exoskeleton, but you have an uneasy feeling all the time that if you drop it, that beautiful edge screen will just shatter. It’s a fear that you live with when you buy a phone worth more than Rs 50,000.

Why Buy it?

There is no doubt that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ is one beautiful looking device that delivers on performance and has an amazing camera. But if you don’t fancy that edge display, then the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 makes more sense as it’s Rs 1,500 cheaper than the Edge+ and comes with an amazing S-Pen.

If you want a phone that will make people’s heads turn and make you stand out of the smartphone crowd, then this is definitely worth considering.
