Earlier this year, Amkette launched its smartphone game controller called the Evo Gamepad Pro. The Gamepad Pro was priced competitively at Rs 2,799, but we felt that it could do with a few improvements.

Looks like the company took our wishes seriously. The brand has come out with an upgraded Gamepad Pro 2 which costs Rs 100 more than its predecessor.

What’s Good?

I am a PlayStation person, and the Evo Gamepad Pro is close to the old 6-axis controller on the PlayStation 3 in terms of design. The two analog sticks are a little out of place for people used to a PlayStation, but for gamers who are Xbox lovers, this is the controller for you.

The build quality is good and the fact that you have an inbuilt smartphone mount on the controller helps. You can connect the Evo Gamepad Pro to your smartphone using Bluetooth and the Evo Gamepad app. The app is like a tutorial and gives you suggestions of over 300 games that are compatible with the Evo Gamepad Pro.

The 400mAh rechargeable Li-Polymer battery on the Evo Gamepad Pro is good enough and lasts for about 4 hours of gaming. Games like Need for Speed, FIFA 15 and Asphalt 8 were a treat to play on the controller.

The Gamepad Pro 2 supports devices with screens measuring 6-inch or less which was was previously missing. Also, the tablet stand is of better quality allowing you to enjoy games on a bigger screen as well.

In addition, we also like that the controller’s microUSB port has been placed in the front, making it easier to charge while the controller is in use.

What’s Bad?

The gaming controller still remains limited to supporting Android phones. At this price, iPhone users are missing out on the controller and hopefully Amkette comes out with an iPhone-supporting controller soon.

Yes, there are over 300 games to choose from, but in many games, you still have to touch the display to enable a few functions. This was a little off-putting.

Why Buy It?

The Amkette Evo Gamepad Pro 2 is the improved version of the first generation controller. The Gamepad Pro 2 definitely offers a better gaming experience and is worth investing in.

Priced at Rs 2,899, the device is currently available only on Flipkart.
