HTC Desire 728G is the latest smartphone to join the mid-segment competition. At a price tag of Rs 17,990, does it have all that your heart desires? Read on.
Coming from HTC, known for its quality by its legion of fans, this one is a clear winner on the brand front. The phone is quite sleek and fits easily into the hand, despite being a 5.5-inch device. The phone comes in white and black colour, with a distinct gold or silver strip running along the sides. The matte back finish adds to the premium aesthetics of the device.
The Desire 728G features HTC’s proven BoomSound speakers with Dolby audio that’s loud and clear. The phone has a dual microphone and dual 4G SIM support. It runs on Android 5.0 (Lollipop).
One of the biggest positives attached to this device is the expandable storage. The phone comes with 16GB inbuilt which is expandable to 2TB, through a microSD card.
The phone doesn’t pack much power under the hood as it comes with only 1.5GB of RAM and 1.3 GHz MediaTek Octa Core Processor. The 5.5-inch 1280x720 display has a pixel density of 267, which doesn’t look very sharp. We would have preferred a Full-HD display, at least.
As a result, the gameplay wasn’t very smooth. The graphics had jarred lines, and frame drops were observed.
We used the device for phone calls, WiFi web-surfing, WhatsApp messaging, and camera functions, with which the phone lasted for almost 6-7 hours. The battery count is 2,800mAh which could have been better for the price and features it’s listed against.
HTC Desire 728G has a 13-megapixel snapper at the back and a 5-megapixel camera for selfies. The front camera took decent selfies in well-lit conditions but had a very grainy and pastel effect in low light. The back camera was a similar story. The phone didn’t meet our expectations in the camera department.
HTC is doing with the Desire what Samsung did with the Galaxy series. There’s an HTC Desire phone at almost all the price points. This device, the Desire 728G feels slightly off the mark as far as pricing is concerned, as it lacks a few of the future-ready features offered in the competition.
No, we don’t want a fingerprint scanner, yet. But we would’ve liked a better resolution screen, a camera with better sensors, more RAM to push and play with heavy applications, and a battery which could take care of it all through the day.
The phone still shines, though. The expandable storage is a really big plus, which will save you trouble while saving a lot of your important data. If that’s what you desire, go pick this one up.
