The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India or TRAI has asked Reliance Jio to withdraw its latest 3 month complimentary Jio Summer Surprise offer. This plan was available to Jio Prime users in the country – whoever recharged their Jio number with Rs 303 or above.
However, following TRAI’s order, Jio has decided to fully comply with the decision, and will withdraw the offer over the next few days.
This development will come as a rude shock to both Reliance Jio, as well as its 72 million customers, who according to Jio, have paid for Jio Prime till date. The statement doesn’t mention as to what happens to those consumers who have already paid for Jio Prime as well as the Rs 303 plan.

The TRAI notification also doesn’t specify whether Jio should roll back the offer for all its paid users, or just stop taking registration for new ones, which is applicable till 15 April.
This is definitely a new twist in the Jio-TRAI tale, and it remains to be seen how Jio intends to tackle this situation.
By extending Jio Prime deadline and offering Jio Summer Surprise, Jio has shown its appetite to acquire more consumers, which clearly hasn’t gone down well with the telecom sector as a whole. This could possibly be the reason that TRAI decided it’s time they intervene and bring some sanity into the industry.
