In a surprise announcement on Thursday, Mukesh Ambani revealed that Reliance Jio will extend its welcome offer till 31st March for all its users.
Calling it the Happy New Year offer, the Reliance Industries chairman said that all existing users, and new users will now gain access to free data, voice usage till 31 March starting from 4 December, when the welcome offer ends.
However, he did add that the new plan will be brought in with some fine tuning to the fair usage policy already in place for its mobile broadband customers. Users will now be able to use 1 GB of free data everyday instead of 4GB that was previously in place for the first three months.
To enable digital transactions, especially among small merchants, Reliance Industries on Thursday announced it was launching next week its Jio-Money Merchant Solutions.
Ambani said this will enable digital transactions of all types, whether they be at mandis, small shops, restaurants, railway ticket counters, for bus and mass transit and even for person-to-person money transfers.
Reliance Industries chairman has revealed that Reliance Jio will now support Mobile Number Portability to help its customers switch over to its services without losing their numbers.
Mukesh Ambani says in the past three months, Reliance jio has become the fastest growing tech company in the world. He revealed that Jio has grown faster than services such as facebook, WhatsApp.
He added that Jio has signed up on an average 6 lakh customers per day in the past three months.
Mukesh Ambani is expected to announce the Reliance Jio Gigafiber service. The move is expected to shake up the broadband market. Earlier, reports had emerged Reliance Jio is setting up its base to fight the broadband competition in India, with its Jio GigaFiber broadband service.
The service which is currently available to consumers in Mumbai and Pune, gives users 15Mbps internet plan, bundled with 500GB data for as less as Rs 500.
It is expected that The Jio GigaFiber will also be offered free of cost to users for 90 days (or 3 months), as part of the Jio Welcome Offer.
However, certain analysts believe that Ambani could also announce the extension of the Jio welcome offer for mobile broadband users in today’s conference.
