Within just 85 days of its official launch, Reliance Jio has crossed 5 crore users!
Mukesh Ambani, the founder of Jio, had announced on the day of the launch that the company would cross 10 crore users in ‘as short a time as possible’.
After the initial boom, however, the smartphone user’s interest in the phenomenon of Jio seems to be dipping.
The biggest reason behind this fall is Jio’s unfulfilled promise to give its users fastest free internet and HD Quality Free Voice calling. The resentment has been apparent on social media, where countless Jio users have been venting their frustration for many weeks now.
The company also clashed with rivals such as Airtel and Vodafone on the issue of Reliance’s call drop. TRAI had to intervene in the matter to work out the unwanted turn of events.
It also imposed a surcharge of Rs 3,050 crore on the other companies.
It seems highly unlikely at this point that Jio will be able to cross 10 crore users during its welcome offer.
In such a scenario, the chances of the inaugural offer getting extended till 31 March are high – sources close to Reliance Jio have hinted at this before. The company is likely to announce this extension on 28 December.
Alternately, if Reliance is indeed able to reach its desired number of users sooner than it had promised, the users can definitely count on both the company’s good faith, as also better service.
However, for the time being, it appears that Reliance will maintain its place among users of dual sim phones.
