Looks like Reliance Jio is not done giving away freebies just yet.
The telecom operator has quietly started offering 10GB add-on data to its 4G users in the country. This pack, we’re told, has been put into everyone’s kitty, just so they can stream content via Jio TV without worrying about eating into their allotted daily quota.
The plan, which can be seen on the My Jio app, says that the add-on benefit will be applicable till 30 March 2018, just a day before Jio’s timeline for Prime subscription comes to an end.
Interestingly, Jio hasn’t made any official confirmation on the add-on data yet, but we managed to find it mentioned in the My Jio app. We checked with multiple users to see if they also got the add-on data, and as it turned out, they did indeed.
Jio has been looking to push the ante in the digital streaming space with its Jio TV app for quite a while now. But, most users cited the allotted data limit wasn’t going to fulfil their streaming needs, especially for those who couldn’t afford to top-up their daily plans.
Jio TV has also been plugged to various TV shows, cricket and football matches recently. Jio TV got exclusive rights to stream the recent Carabao Final match in England between Arsenal and Manchester City. And they’re now shifting focus towards the upcoming tri-series cricket event between India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Could this be the reason that Jio decides to bundle another 10 gigs of data (in addition to the minimum 1.5 GB offered daily). Jio Prime is also coming to its last leg, and with 31 March (Prime subscription end date) fast approaching, this could be a stop-gap measure before coming out with another Prime-like benefit offer for its users.
