Reliance Jio has 215 million users on its network, announced its chairman Mukesh Ambani. He also claimed that over the past 12 months, Jio managed to double its user base, owing to the expansion of its offerings with JioPhone.
This puts Jio in the top rung of the telecom sector in India, with Airtel leading the race. In April, Jio had reported over 186 million users, but has finally managed to cross the 200 million mark.
This week’s Reliance AGM was highly anticipated, especially by consumers, and the company hasn’t let them down. Here’s what Reliance Jio announced on Thursday.
Reliance Jio has flourished because of its knock-off data prices and free voice calling. Well, at least that’s what the numbers suggest. Mukesh Ambani highlighted how Jio has catapulted mobile data usage and how free-of-cost calling has boosted its coffers.
While these numbers are impressive, it’s hard to ignore the impact of JioPhone on the company. After all, this affordable device has been the gateway to 4G Internet on the mobile for many in the country.
But it’s not only data usage and voice calls that have increased with the drop in data prices in India. Thanks to JioTV and YouTube, Reliance Jio has seen a massive growth in video consumption on its network.
