Reliance Industries just concluded its Annual General Meeting (AGM) where the company’s chairman Mukesh Ambani announced a slew of offerings for Jio customers.
The company’s telecom division, Reliance Jio, has flourished under the ambit of affordable internet that has forced its competition to drop data prices like never before.
While the AGM is mostly about Reliance sharing its plans with the shareholders, it was a feast for consumers who kept a close eye on some of the Jio-centric products announced. After all, the AGM was the platform where Reliance commercially launched its Jio service a couple of years ago, and also introduced JioPhone to the world.
Here are some of the key announcements made at the event:
Customers will now be able to exchange their feature phones for JioPhones for Rs 501, starting July 21, said Mukesh Ambani today.
With this, the company is aiming to reach the 100 million JioPhone users.
The company launched JioPhone 2 which comes with a horizontal screen feature and a full QWERTY keyboard, Isha Ambani said. The JioPhone 2 will be available in the market starting 15 August at Jio retail stores.
Ambani announced a new broadband service called the Jio GigaFiber. He also went on to add that the registrations for this service will start from 15 August and users can expect speeds up to 1 Gbps.
