Rahul Gandhi’s finally on Twitter. Looks like the Congress Vice President has learnt the value of reaching out directly to the public, but in a puzzling move, his handle is dubbed ‘Office of RG’.

Within 24 hours of his Twitter debut, Rahul Gandhi has already chalked up 31.9K followers (at the time of writing).

Rahul’s move is yet another aspect of his energetic re-entry into politics after his 56-day sabbatical.

So Why is His Twitter Handle Called @OfficeOfRG?

So it’s not Rahul Gandhi per se. What’s clear is that he won’t be the one physically sending out the tweets himself. The Economic Times’ Ritika Chopra says:

There has been some (constructive) criticism over the fact that the Twitter handle is not being pegged as Rahul’s own.

Rahul Kanwal, Managing Editor of Headlines Today and Preeti Choudhary, a journalist had this to say:

There were other tweets critiquing Rahul Gandhi too. Here’s a selection.

3 Tweets So Far

The tweets themselves are nothing juicy. They talk about his schedule for the next few days and what to expect from the handle:

Rahul Gandhi is also being careful with the number of people he follows. So far, he is following only three handles, the Congress Party, the Youth Congress and the National Students Union of India.

It’s still early days, but will Rahul Gandhi go anywhere close to PM Narendra Modi’s following? Modi has more than 12.1 million followers, the third-highest among world leaders.

We’ll Just have to wait and see.
