Reliance has certainly changed the dynamics of the Indian telecom sector, once and for all. The company is ambitious in its plan to create an Internet landscape in India, which will catapult the country from its 150th ranking on the basis of data usage, to almost 10th globally.
Earlier on Thursday, Mukesh Ambani announced that voice calls will be free on the Jio network forever, there will be no roaming charges and data per GB will be priced as low as Rs 50. So, how does that compare to what you have been paying to Airtel or Vodafone till now?
Here’s a look at it.
(These plans come with 28 days’ validity and no special night usage benefits.)

These prices clearly give Reliance Jio 4G a definite advantage over the rest of the players. It must also be noted that all Jio 4G plans come with unlimited night data usage on 4G, but voice calls are not part of the plans.
Now, keeping in mind that Jio 4G offers wider data plans, we decided to take a look at how much data is up for offer at different price points.
Except for Reliance Jio and Vodafone, the other two do not offer tariff plans above Rs 2000.
Reliance Jio has plans that offer up to 75GB, which costs a cool Rs 4999. They are also offering access to premium content apps like Jio Cinema, Jio Play and Jio Beats. On an average, on closer comparison, one realises that Jio is offering anywhere between 25 to 35 percent extra data in the same tariff. The additional benefit of Jio is getting free access to hundreds of thousands of Public WiFi hotspots and free connectivity across 30,000 educational institutions.
Reliance has fired a powerful salvo, it is time to see what Airtel, Vodafone, Idea will offer to keep their customers from abandoning ship.
