This year, we added more apps to our phones, which meant more accounts sign-ups and more passwords.

Remembering a multitude of passwords can be a pain, which is why you end up making the simplest of choices.

But the trouble is, we don’t really help ourselves by having simple (easy to remember) passwords, and sadly, 2017 was no different.

According to a recent report from Splashdata, more than 5 million leaked passwords were observed this year, out of which they have managed to rank the worst of the worst.

Here’s the list of top 20 passwords that were hacked the most in 2017.

For 2017, the world’s most-hacked password is still “123456,” followed by “Password.”

These two passwords have been topping this notorious list since 2011, and there is no surprise in seeing them again.

The report goes on to suggest some valuable inputs for setting up passwords.

Try using the first letters of a phrase or a song title, for example. Finally, it’s important never to use the same password twice and to make sure you change passwords regularly, once per quarter, for example.

We often blame the infrastructure for digital mishaps, but being aware of how to set an effective password is equally important.
