OnePlus 7 Pro users across the globe are getting a new software update this week which fixes a major security issue with the phone.

We all know that the flagship phone from OnePlus comes with a pop-up front camera which can be used for making video calls, clicking selfies and unlocking the phone.

But there was an issue in the phone that made sure while making video calls, the pop up camera opened up, inside the pocket and even when it was kept on the table. Fortunately, OnePlus noticed the issue and has provided a quick fix for it with the latest firmware update, which has been made available via over the air.

The version update for Oxygen OS 9.5.8.GM21AA improves on a slew of things but for us, the highlighting fix was on the camera side. Technically, the front facing camera should not open, unless the phone has been unlocked by the owner. But before we got hold of this update, the pop-up camera was opening without the user’s permission.

We tested the phone by making a WhatsApp video call, and the update has made difference to the feature, making it safer to use now.

This was concerning because, you’re using the same pop-up to face unlock the device, and let’s say if the other person keeps it in front of the owner of the phone, chances are the phone will unlock in a split second.

The OnePlus 7 Pro launched in the country on 14 May this year and the first phone from the company to sport a 90Hz display and a pop-up camera was priced at Rs 48,999 for the base model.
