Not many days ago, an online suicidal game dubbed the Blue Whale Challenge was doing the rounds on the internet where it reportedly claimed lives of a few teenagers. Now another such online game called ‘Momo Challenge’ seems to be gaining ground and becoming a nightmare for parents across the world.

In an attempt to make people aware of its ill-effects, the Mumbai police has issued a warning on its official Twitter page urging people to stay away from any such challenges and also dial 100 in case of an unwanted situation.

According to The Sun, the Momo Challenge emerged on social networking website Facebook where its members were challenged to communicate with an unknown number. Rumours suggest that the challenge encourages children to participate in violent acts that inevitably lead to suicide.

Momo is the name of a social media account present on networks like WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube. The report also mentions that Momo responds with violent images and threatens people who refuse to follow its orders.

The challenge, which went viral on social media platforms, has also allegedly been linked to the death of a 12-year-old girl in Argentina, according to The Sun.

As of now, there haven't been any cases reported in India but the police is taking no chances against such a threat and is also looking to raise awareness to avoid any mishaps through social media platforms like Twitter.

The tweet posted by Mumbai Police reads “How about interacting with us on the widely known #Dial100 than on unknown numbers, to beat the challengers in their own game!”

The police are also using the hashtags #NoNoMoMo and #MomoChallenge, followed by a quirky phrase — “Not all momos are meant to be consumed”.
