Microsoft has released its next generation of gaming console which finally gets a name. Initially teased as Project Scarlett, the company has announced that the new gaming console will be called Xbox Series X.

At first glance, the Xbox Series X looks like a PC cabinet with a vertical console-setup. However, Microsoft’s Xbox chief, Phil Spencer, said that it has been designed in way that you can place it vertically or horizontally.

While the design has been revealed, the company hasn’t revealed the official specifications of the device although it is clear that the new-gen console will get the custom-designed CPU based on AMD’s Zen 2 and Radeon architecture.

The Xbox Series X will also support gaming up to 8k resolution and with frame rate going all the way up to 120 frames per second.

It is also said to receive ray tracing which will help with a better rendering of high-definition games and will also get support for variable refresh rate.

Also, Microsoft has been hush-hush about the GPU performance of the Xbox Series X but it has said that it will be 2X of what the Xbox One X offers.

Moving to the Xbox Series X controller, it’s much smaller than before and it also adds a new Share button to make capturing screenshots and game clips simple. The new controller supports backward-compatibility, which means it will work with Xbox One X console as well.

It is also rumoured that Microsoft is working on a smaller, less powerful version on this series which will be launched simultaneously with the Series X.
