Microsoft To Lay Off Most of Former Nokia Employees

The IT giant announced that it will cut 4700 jobs globally by the end of the year.

More jobs on the line at Microsoft, as the company sets about its mission to remove the existence of Nokia as a brand from its business logs. Microsoft on Thursday announced the lay off of an additional 2,850 workers to the 1,850 jobs it said it would cut.

The company has also informed in a regulatory filing, that globally 4,700 jobs will be cut by the end of fiscal year 2017.

The Nokia demise started earlier in May, when Microsoft saved $950 million by dismissing thousands of people at the Nokia team.

The latest job cuts mean that the majority of former Nokia employees will no longer be working at Microsoft.

Microsoft’s Lumia and Windows Phone strategy has failed as both sales and Windows Phone market share have declined since the tech giant’s mobile restructuring last year.
