Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is in India on a week-long visit. He started off by attending Future Decoded, a CEO summit in Mumbai. At the event, he highlighted how distributed computing is the future and how he expects there would be about 50 billion connected devices by 2030. Nadella also says that about 54 percent of all employees in tech companies would require reskilling as tech is changing rapidly.
Nadella got into a fire-side chat with Reliance CMD Mukesh Ambani as well. They spoke about the partnership between Reliance Jio and Microsoft in enabling digital India.
"Every entrepreneur in India has the potential to become a Dhirubhai Ambani or Bill Gates," Ambani said during the fireside chat session with Nadella.
Saying that India has transformed tremendously over the past two decades – from a $300 billion economy in early 1990s to becoming a $3 trillion economy in 2020 – Ambani stressed that India is on track to become one of the top three economies of the world.
Nadella also spoke about the various Microsoft platforms such as Dynamic 365 and LinkedIn and how they are being used by clients to enable their businesses. He cited examples from clients such as Apollo Hospitals, Ola, Myntra and even Royal Enfield.
Talking about app development, Nadella said about 72 percent of developers will be working outside of the tech industry in India.
He also highlighted how productivity tools like Microsoft Teams can help.
Nadella’s visit to India will be from 24 February to 26 February. He will visit New Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai during his visit, and take part in various media as well as industry events.
During his visit, Nadella will meet senior industry leaders in India. A report also said that the Microsoft CEO will also try to facilitate a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Nadella's visit comes shortly after he criticised the situation prevailing in the country after the introduction of the Citizenship Amendment Act. In an interview with Buzzfeed Editor-in-Chief Ben Smith, Nadella expressed his thoughts over CAA and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) brought in by the BJP-led government.
Nadella's visit also coincides with the visit of US President Donald Trump, who is also in the country on 24 and 25 February.
