MediaTek, a Taiwanese semiconductor company, has announced a strategic partnership with homegrown Indian brand Micromax to push for mid-range and premium 4G LTE phones in India.
Micromax now, as a part of this collaboration, will become the first Indian company to launch MediaTek’s Helio-based smartphones in the country.
MediaTek’s Helio is a family of premium smartphone chipsets that deliver greater performance and efficiency.
Micromax also took the opportunity to launch the Canvas Fire 4G, a smartphone that will be powered by the MediaTek MT6735 processor. The Canvas Fire 4G is an extension of Micromax Informatic’s Fire series, which has been custom built for music lovers.
India is the next 4G LTE smartphone battleground and key to MediaTek’s mission to power billions of devices globally.

India represents MediaTek’s second largest market globally and the company says it wants to tap into the country’s 4G potential even further.
