It has been a while since we heard about new features trickling down from one Facebook product to another. On Tuesday, Instagram announced a new feature that most of us used on WhatsApp for quite sometime now. The feature is called Walkie Talkie.
The voice note option is now available to Instagram users, who can privately send them audio messages to his/her friends. The photo-sharing platform is slowly becoming similar to its cousin, and the inclusion of voice message is another sign that features are going to be more or less same for both of them.
Voice is definitely an easier way to connect with users, and saves your data usage as well, working in conditions where the network isn’t at its best. The feature is rolling out to Android and iOS version of Instagram across the globe this week.
Sending a voice note is easy. Press and hold the microphone button (as shown below) and hold it while talking. You’ll see the graph jump once you start speaking. Interestingly, the voice messages, unlike Stories on Instagram will not get deleted automatically, even after 24 hours and anybody can listen to them whenever they want.
You can record a voice message for up to one minute, as confirmed by the Facebook-owned platform.
And if by mistake you send a wrong message then Instagram lets you unsend it and same gets deleted from both ends. Voice note is a convenient feature that has delivered mixed results for WhatsApp users, and we’ll have to see how the folks using Instagram find it.
