Twitter has been looking for a new CEO for a while now and, if recent reports are to be believed, the chair might be filled by former Cisco CTO Padmasree Warrior, who is of Indian origin.
After Sundar Pichai became the CEO of Google recently, the spotlight has been on Indians making it big in Silicon Valley.
So, who exactly is Padmasree Warrior?
Padmasree Warrior was born and raised in the city of Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh and attended the Children’s Montessori School and Maris Stella College in Vijayawada.
She received a Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from IIT, Delhi in 1982 and then a Master’s degree in chemical engineering from Cornell University.
She joined Motorola in 1984 and, during her tenure as CTO of Motorola, was awarded the 2004 National Medal of Technology by then-President of the United States, George W Bush.
As of 2014, she is listed as the 71st most powerful woman in the world by Forbes.
On 4 December 2007, she left Motorola to become CTO at Cisco Systems and in June 2015 announced that she will be leaving the company. It was speculated that she will be taking up a new role at Fujitsu but folks at Twitter seem to have got to her first.
Twitter has been under pressure lately as the company’s stock has slipped 22% and several product executives have left. It’s now been three months without a CEO for Twitter and Padmasree Warrior may be their best bet in these hard times.
