Huawei’s mid-range, dual-camera phone, Honor 6X, has been announced for the Indian market, with prices starting from Rs 12,999. This is an online-exclusive device (flash sales are back), that’s got hefty competition from brands like Xiaomi, Moto, and Lenovo, among others.

Honor’s got a sub-30K phone with dual camera that did impress us with its image-capturing capability. But can Honor repeat the trick in the Xiaomi and Moto-populated arena?

Design

The tried-and-tested gold finishing design template has been taken to the cleaners now. But Honor 6X feels that people are still content on paying money to buy phones in the same mould.

Whatever be the case, the Honor 6X does offer a premium look. But let this be the last we see of this template. Weighing at over 164 grams, we found the phone lighter than most devices in this price segment, even with is its 5.5-inch dimensions.

Physical buttons have been replaced by soft, virtual keys within the software, leaving them with enough space to add the Honor branding. This one’s definitely a me-too product for its design, but still not a dealbreaker.

Huawei has become a serial dual-camera specialist, so there’s no point doubting their credentials with this tech. And with the Honor 6X, the brand has given strong focus to the camera in tow.

What you can see above are two cameras; a 12-megapixel and a 2-megapixel snapper. Both of them work in tandem to produce detailed images. We tried out the camera and after clicking some shots, we think it’s got enough in the tank to be used as a primary snapper.

Features, Battery and More

Honor 6X gets a 5.5-inch Full-HD 1920x1080 pixel display, running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow version of EUI right now. It is powered by an octa-core Kirin processor and yes, it does support VoLTE. These are the variants of Honor 6X:

  • 3GB RAM + 32GB storage = Rs 12,999
  • 4GB RAM + 64GB storage = Rs 15,999

The phone is loaded with a 3340mAh battery, offers microUSB 2.0 for charging and data transfer. Honor claims that the phone can last longer than the 4100mAh backed Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, and Lenovo K6 Note but we’ll test those claims out with our review soon.

It’ll be interesting to see if people opt for Redmi Note 4 or the Honor 6X, especially with its price difference. What works in favour of the the latter is the dual camera, for Xiaomi, it’s the success of Redmi Note 3 last year. But in the end, everything will come down to how easily one can buy either of these phones online.
